Hi Laura

Just a quick one I love your blog it’s amazing and really helped me deal with now being a dairy intolerant veggie !! I was just after your green goddess dressing recipe as the new format does not take you to the recipe it just goes back to your latest blog page!!! I tried the recipe last month and it even won over me meat eating fiancé he loved it!!

Thanks again for the positivity and inspiration

Katie

Hi Katie, thanks for the lovely comment! I’m having to go through and update all my links, never realised quite how many recipes I have! Here’s the link for the GG dressing:

Hi Laura ,
thanks for the link. I’m looking for some advice on my diet. Basically I’ve been a veggie for 14 years and 6 months ago I developed ibs and a dairy intolerance I think that was brought on by a bad case of food poisoning ! This has left me being practically a vegan. I’m really struggling with getting healthy, I’m an outdoor expedition and activity instructor and a runner too ( just got back from running the Florence marathon) . I’m looking for someone who understands all this and can help me get healthy again especially the vegan part and give me a balanced diet plan etc. Do you have any ideas? I’m 31 fit and active but this is now effecting my fitness and activity levels too !!
Any help and direction would be great !! I live in Devon do you know of anyone down in the south ??

Many thanks

Katie

Hi Laura,
A fellow Laura here who is currently devouring my second green smoothie and OMG!!! This one is way better than yesterday’s. Having it out of a bowl like you often do. Cant get hold of the thickner you use so today i tried thickening it up with some porridge oats and it worked a treat!! Will be getting rather addictive to these i think!!
Thank you

Laura February 9, 2013 at 2:39 pm

So glad that you are enjoying them, porridge oats work a treat!

laura February 9, 2013 at 7:22 pm

Cant wait til tomoro til i try a new one out!!! Lol. Thanks so much.. Think i will add a pear into one tomorrow.. hope it works!! Btw where do you buy your protein powder and xnthan gum?

laura February 11, 2013 at 5:29 pm

Love your pancake post! Cant wait for tomorrow!! At the minute i cant decide what filling/topping im going to make but its going to be super yum anyway!!

Also wanted to say, can you make the smoothie ahead of time and keep them in the fridge or do they loose their nutritional value quick? Hope that i can make them before bed then grab them from the fridge on my way to work as i leave the house pretty early!!!

Oh i have decide that instead of giving up something for Lent i want to challenge myself to have at least one smoothie a day instead for the same length of time!! Hence asking the above question!

Look forward to your response.
Thanks Laura

Hello, I was wondering if you are still enjoying matcha, and in what form: hot or cold?

Laura April 15, 2013 at 11:30 am

I have actually just bought some more matcha, I like it hot and in smoothies :-)

Hi Laura,

Ive been following you for a while and have previously posted messages here. From reading/seeing what you eat you have inspired me to make quite a few food swaps from addiction to smoothies to anything coconut and frozen rasberries/cherries with yogurt!! But the last month or so i have be struggling more than usual to keep things healthy and wholesome. I find that im good during the week but the weekends are soooo hard for me. Come Monday im right back on the health food but weekends i just seem to overeat and eat the wrong stuff…Its not a good balance and its getting me really fed up :( any help/advice would be great. Thank you

Laura May 26, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Hi Laura,

Weekends can be so hard – but don’t forget that if you are eating well during the week, a few treats at the weekend are nothing to worry about. But I do understand if you feel like you are over eating a little. The best thing I could advise you to do to begin with is analyse what is triggering this off. It sounds like you go into the weekend intending to eat well and then things go off plan? If that is the case, then thinking about the situations you are in when you don’t eat as well as you’d like or if you over eat and looking at how you can avoid or change them is a good start. Hope that helps!

Daisy November 25, 2013 at 7:12 pm

Hi,
I have a nut allergy, what is a good replacement for things like almond butter and milk?

Laura November 25, 2013 at 8:05 pm

Hi Daisy,

for almond butter, you could try something like tahini or sunflower seed butter (I’m hoping that you are ok with seeds?) I think holland and barrett also sell a soy nut butter alternative. for almond milk, if you are ok to have coconut milk, koco milk is good, also hemp milk is a good alternative. Hope that helps!

Jasmin Woolf December 20, 2013 at 10:15 am

Hi Laura!
My name is Jasmin. I am really passionate about healthy eating and am currently in my first year of university at Durham! I was born in Hong Kong and this is my first time living away from home and having access to loads of healthy options. Do you have any tips for living in college (and being catered for) as well as any particularly good cafes or restaurants to recommend? (I’ve been to Oldfields and loved it but it is a little out of the student budget!)
Thank you!
Jasmin

Laura December 21, 2013 at 12:15 pm

Hi Jasmin! Thanks foe the message and welcome to Durham! It is a difficult one if you are being catered for, I think it might be about making the best options you can for your meals and then eating really healthy snacks. Robinsons Green Grocers on North Road have a great selection of fruit and vegetables and offer a student discount, you could get some fruit and veggies for snacking on maybe? For cafes Vennels is really good and I’ve spotted a couple of places in the Indoor Market that look promising (although I haven’t tried them yet), plus there is a tiny little health food shop in there as well. The Slug and Lettuce does a lovely sweet potato and chickpea salad that’s a good healthy option and not too expensive. If you get through to Newcastle there’s a couple of great places, The Scrumpty Willow and Singing Kettle is a great cafe and theres a place called The Health Box in Grainger Market. Hope that helps a little, it is a bit harder to find really good healthy options locally, but slowly places are getting better. I definitely think that in terms of staying healthy while you are being catered for it’s going to be what you can get in via snacks etc. Hope you have a great time in our little city!

Hi Laura. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you, I am an avid reader of your blog, and really want to lose weight and get leaner and fitter. I am a size 12-14, and would really love to lose 20lbs, but I never seem to manage it. I have tried a lot of the slimming clubs, but don’t get very far and then usually give up. My usual pattern is lose 2lb, put on a 1lb, lose 1/2lb, put on 2lb! I know it seems ridiculous when I just need to eat less and move more, but I always seem to have cravings for sweet things like biscuits and chocolate, and plan to be “strong” for a couple of days and then give in. I do 2 combat classes per week but that’s about it when it comes to exercise. I am a lost cause?!
Thank you for your time x

Hi there, I’m not sure if there is another way to contact you but I was the original artist of the Hayley Williams “Fall in love with yourself” piece and was wondering if you could change the source to my actual art page? It’s korrthy.tumblr.com, it’s been getting reblogged without my source tag on it and is going viral on the internet and im kind of bummed about that :c
Thanks,
Korri

Laura May 11, 2014 at 1:55 pm

Hi Korri, huge apologies for that, I will certainly add your page as the credit. It’s a great piece of art!

Sam June 24, 2014 at 8:31 am

Hi Laura,
I am looking to make a Smoothie for my breakfast. I want to include maca powder to balance my hormones but also to be super healthy as i am trying to lose weight.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance, Sam :)

Laura June 24, 2014 at 8:38 am

Ooh, I would maybe try a simple spinach, banana, unsweetened almond milk and maca version, or maybe some mixed frozen berries or strawberries in place of the banana to make it slightly lower sugar? That might not be filling enough, so feel free to add some low fat greek yoghurt for more protein, and if you have some, a few chia seeds to add healthy fats to support the absorption of fat soluble vitamins :-)
