Coldpress Juices: Give pasteurised juices the cold shoulder

Often when I’m out and about I’ll reach for a shop bought juice or smoothie to keep me going. I find they give me a good energy boost and of course taste good too. What I didn’t realise is that most bottled juices and smoothies are pasteurised in order to kill of any harmful bacteria. This high heat process of pasteurisation not only kills off the bacteria but it also damages the natural nutrients present in the fruit and vegetables.

To combat this issue and to offer juices that retain all of their natural goodness Coldpress have launched a range of three nutritionally dense drinks which instead of pasteurisation, are treated by using pressure on the bottles to kill off any harmful bugs. This leaves all the precious vitamins and minerals in place as well as the flavour!

The new range includes:

Banana Raw Cacao: a smooth and creamy dairy free combination of almond milk, banana, raw cacao, apple and lemon

Fruity Green: A delicious blend of apples, celery, kiwis, bananas, kale, spinach and lime

Berry Beets: An earthy and fruity mix of apples, beetroots, raspberries, pears and lemon.

Each drink has some great nutrition:

Banana Raw Cacao (120 cals/150ml) which is a great source of protein and vitamins B1, B12, C, D and E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, especially when the sun isn’t shining. This is a silky-tasting, indulgent, drink.’

Both Fruity Green (63 cals/150ml) and Berry Beets (65 cals/150ml) are packed full of vitamin C, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress – damaged caused by free radicals. The raspberry in the latter is a perfect complement and ‘foil’ to soften the strong taste of the beetroot – as well as providing high amounts of potassium, fibre and polyphenols. The kiwi in Fruity Green is packed with vitamins A, B, E, K and copper – and is similarly complementary to its fellow greens of apple, celery and kale.’

I’ve tried all of these Coldpress drinks and they taste amazing! The Banana Raw Cacao is just lovely, the Fruity Green tastes really fresh and the Berry Beets has a nice earthiness to it without being overpowering.

These drinks include the more ‘gentle’ tasting vegetables and some of the stronger flavoured ones (like kale!) alongside fruits so are a good option if you just want to try out a juice and have been a little put off by the idea of drinking vegetables.

The juices are also a great way to get your 5-a-day as a 150ml serving provides one portion of your daily fruit and veg.

All three 500ml bottles are available in Waitrose priced at £2.89 RRP for the Banana Raw Cacao and £2.79 RRP for the two juice-based drinks. You can find out more at
