Things I bought in Brighton

Pretty stationary

I always save up some cash for our trips to Brighton so I can go a bit crazy in the shops down there. They have some great little independent boutiques in the North Laines, as well as the health food shops and the usual bigger high street stores. I set myself a budget which I (almost) stuck to, and I’m chuffed to bits with the goodies I found! First up is some nice stationary and crafty things pictured above, including decorative paper from Tiger and to do lists, shopping list pad, thank you cards, paper clips and magnets and some fun postcards all from Paperchase.

Brighton home buys

Next up I got some stuff for the kitchen including patterned dish cloths, a scrubbing brush, patterned paper straws and a microplane grater all from Tiger. I also found a gorgeous yellow hook from Sass and Belle that I plan to put in the bathroom to add some colour, and some wonderful glass kilner smoothie jars from Bert’s.

Organic skin care from brighton

I needed to stock up on some skin and hair care including my favourite Green People Day Solution. I saw the Avalon Organics shampoo and condition on special offer so thought I’d try those, as well as the Green People toothpaste. I also grabbed a raw cherry lip balm, all of those being from Infinity Foods. In addition I needed more hair elastics which I seem to go through very quickly! I always get mine from Boots.

Goodies from Brighton

Some other little treats included a floral hair band and gold necklace from H&M, a gold paper plane ring from Rose Hill Boutique and a pretty bracelet with star charm and lime leaf and ginger scented candle from Lavender Room.

Ollie and nic bag

I found this big weekender bag in Ollie and Nic half price. I thought it would be perfect as my labour bag for when the baby comes, as well as being useful for any future trips away as I’ve been after a decent weekend bag for a while.

Brighton chocolate

I can’t possibly go to Brighton and not come back without chocolate! I picked up a couple of bars of my favourite raw chocolate including iQ, The Raw Chocolate Company and Ombar. I also liked the sound of the extra dark mint Seed and Bean and the Sea Salt and Caramel Chocolate (all of those from Infinity Foods). I love Montezuma’s chocolate too, so picked up a selection pack of mini bars.

Health food buys brighton

Naturally I got a few health foodie essentials too! Some vanilla chai and vanilla white teas, coconut oil, rye bread with amaranth and quinoa, rice syrup, Love Raw bars, Zest pesto and a big kabocha squash! The squash might not be so seasonal right now but I couldn’t resist.

Vest tops jpg

I didn’t get that many clothes by my standards, just a couple of things to wear during the rest of the pregnancy including a beautiful floaty floral vest top from H&M and a big vest top for the gym from TK Maxx.

Primark denim jack and maxi jpg

From Primark I got a cropped denim jacket and a striped maxi dress, both in a bigger size.

Not pictured is a few bigger bits and pieces for the kitchen including a new drainer and a rain jacket and boots I had to pick up so I could deal with the rain as I was pretty unprepared for the wet weather!

Do you like to save up and splash out or get bits and bobs every now and again? Do you like shopping on holiday?

Great haul! I especially love the jewellery and stationery. I could spend £££ on stationery. In fact I had to put myself on a notebook ban because I keep buying them and then not using them because I don’t want to ‘spoil’ them!

I rarely shop on holiday. I’m not a fan of shopping generally. When I go away I always decide that *this time* I will pick up a few things to remind me of my trip, but when it comes down to it I can never be bothered, I’m terrible!

Haha stationary shopping can be addictive! I think sometimes you are either a shopaholic or you aren’t!

  • Aah so many nice things! I absolutely love the candles from Lavender Room, they’re incredible.

I buy a scented candle every time I visit Brighton!

  • I don’t really shop on holiday – I tend to just buy a souvenir or two and some gifts for others. I love stationary though and am developing quite a shopping habit! Paperchase is a real danger zone for me – I can’t come out empty handed! I love the little bracelet with the star charm, sounds like you had a great time.

Thanks Katy! Definitely a good find :-)

  • In the spirit of not wasteing my gran taught me years ago how to re use old tights as bobbles for your hair they are snag free and really strong and who doesn’t have old tights kicking around? Just chop the feet and crotch ends off and cut the legs into chunks as thin or thick as u like and bingo :-) love the tops and choc x

  • Love the bag and the floral headband and reading about a “food haul” is always exciting so now I’m hungry ;-)
Sorry to have missed you this time but we will try again on your next visit.
(just had the blinking tooth pulled today = in agony now as the anaesthetic wears off)

Was such a shame to miss you, but next time I should have baby with me which should be fun (hopefully!) Hope your tooth is feeling better now!

      • Babies are totally fun, tiring but worth it. Best thing I ever did having the boys :-)

  • Ahh all your stuff looks so lovely. Quirky, colourful and vibrant! I do all the beautiful stationary. Sadly I don’t have a need for that as my job is so computer-based and I rarely ever need to write stuff down or organise myself in that way :(
I tried the IQ chocolate (I think the cocoa nib one) and I really didn’t like. I’m not wary of any raw chocolate…maybe it was just that flavour though? It’s like green tea, I’d so like to like it you know?

To be fair, I usually use Evernote on my computer, but some days I just like writing stuff down! You should maybe try a different brand, they all seem to have their own taste and texture :-)

  • What a fab haul of goodies Laura! That labour bag is beautiful, so nice to have something special and flowery packed and ready to go.
I tend to go through phases with my spending, usually depending on whether my work expenses have been paid (which is a frustratingly long process..). I can never turn down raw choc though ;-) (p.s. those Hurraw lip balms are on my list – I saw Maria liked them too so I’m keen to give them a try!)

    • Laura

I guess that’s at least one advantage when I can sort my expenses out for myself, but that must be a pain and annoying for you! The lipbalms are really good, best I’ve tried definitely better than the chemically ones!

  • Caroline

What lovely things you bought it seems like you like shopping! Me too soooo much. I know one thing I wouldn’t be able to trust myself with all that lovely looking chocolate around, yummy!

    • Laura

I do ;-) My purse not so much! I go through phases with chocolate, some times I need to not buy it because I’ll just eat it in one go, then other times I feel focused enough to be able to manage it.

  • What a lovely selection :) I love that Bert’s shop- I got very tempted by a cute little rabbit light but Andy convinced me that I don’t have anywhere to put it :(
It is funny because some towns I like for shopping- Brighton and Bath are two of my faves, but other towns with the same shops just don’t appeal. But I agree Brighton has a fab mix of independent/ interesting stores too.
I nearly bought that cherry lip balm, but I had just got a lot of them from i-herb, plus I was not sure how tinted it would be, and as I don’t wear lipstick I was a bit worried about it looking strange on me!

It’s not too dark actually, it’s a very light redish stain I’m sure it would look great on you!

  • I love holiday shopping – always reminds me of the trip once I’m back home! Those chocolate bars look amazing. x

It is lovely thinking of it like that, in fact I have stuff all around the flat that reminds me of trips away :-)

  • Wow, lovely bits! Love the bag.

  • This all looks great! I love the labour bag! Is it too big for a nappy bag? All the parents I know tell me you need to bring a lot of stuff around with you, so it will come in useful! You’ve just reminded me about Paperchase! Next time I’m home, I’ll have to stop by, I love all their stuff!

Well that was what I was thinking, some nappy bags look awful and are super expensive! Ah Paperchase is addictive!

  • Cute bits and pieces :-) I used to go Brighton all the time, but just realised I’ve not been in about 5 years- I must plan a trip as it is only about an hour’s drive. So many nice shops in the Laines.

  • I’m a sucker for cute stationary and can never resist that! I don’t tend to buy much when we go away though. As long as I have some nice meals out whilst I’m away and I get a fridge magnet with the name of the place we went to, I’m happy…easily pleased! :P
